Five Minutes: Five things that are good to know
What we’re hearing:
A Sourcing Manager at one of the largest cosmetics company in the world recently said the following during a focus group discussion:
What we’re researching:
We will soon be kicking off this year’s first TLMI Index & Trend Report! We will be working with the TLMI Market Intelligence Advisory Committee in surveying label converters across the U.S. and Canada. A major focus of the research will be capital equipment purchasing trends including digital presses, decoration areas outside of pressure sensitive, running material waste averages, and specific value-add labeling techniques. Here’s a cool graph from the last TLMI Index & Trend Report that was published by the association at the end of last year:
We have also recently been commissioned to do a major project that involves interviewing large numbers of brands and packaging buyers across North America and Europe. It’s always fascinating to compare and contrast label sourcing trends on both sides of the Atlantic.
Where we’ve been:
Members of the LPC team recently had the opportunity to break bread with Jules Lejeune, Managing Director of Lejeune Association and the guy in charge of FINAT, Europe’s largest label and narrow web packaging association.
While sampling the wares and local craft beers at Odd Duck, one of Austin’s most beloved and iconic restaurants, our discussion topics ranged from the state of the European label-printing industry, to the Dutch National Field Hockey Team, to the taste of antelope (it was on the menu) and where to buy the best cowboy hat in Austin. LPC researches and publishes FINAT’s Prestigious RADAR Market Research Report and it was great to host Jules on our home turf.
What we’re thinking:
Does minimalism have staying power? Do your labels spark joy? (Just kidding, but we had to get a Marie Kondo reference in there somewhere given how she’s basically everywhere these days.)
We’re seeing more and more ‘minimalist’ packaging on shelves with lots of opaque whites and bold, but simple, design elements. Does minimalism have staying power in the printed packaging industry? Time will tell.
What makes sense to us:
“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson
LPC is proud to announce that we have been contracted as the Marcom/PR agency of record for Graymills Corporation, a leading manufacturer of ink pumps and auxiliary equipment for the printed packaging industries.
2019 marks Graymills’ 80th year serving the industry and we look forward to working with the company’s new President, Kristen Shields, in building upon their past success and market leadership. Read more here…
