Last month market research firm LPC, Inc. launched a new multi-client new research initiative: The North American Market for Digital Label Presses. The industry’s most prominent digital press manufacturers are participating in what is an unprecedented market analysis of this scope and an outreach of this size.
Jennifer Dochstader, LPC Principal, had this to say, “A study of this scope and scale has never been done before in the label printing marketplace. We’re surveying and speaking with hundreds of North American label printers/converters and brand owners. Our survey group represents more than 75% of the total value of the North American tag and label sector and will offer study participants a clear direction of digital press purchasing trends by format, and exactly what will drive the purchase of a digital press whether it’s toner-based, inkjet, or one of the newer hybrid systems we saw on display at Labelexpo in Brussels.
The study will break down press acquisition data by press cost (<$250K, $250-$500K, $500-$750K, $750-$1 Million, and >$1 Million) in addition to acquisition data by label printer/converter size. The market is extremely fragmented right now. There are more digital press options for label converters to choose from than ever before and companies are trying to figure out what they will be buying within the next one to two years. We’ll be analyzing the most important ‘buy’ criteria per press platform and how this differs between label converters’ application mix (high definition prime labels, non-prime labels, food/beverage labels vs. pharma and personal care, etc.).
The study will be published at the end of February and eight digital press manufacturers have confirmed participation to date. For more information, please contact jennifer@lpcprint.com
